Which dictionaries does AnagramSolver.io use?

We use multiple tournament-standard word lists including OTCWL (Tournament and Club Word List) compatible with North American Scrabble, the Words With Friends dictionary, and NYT Wordle-compatible word lists including both answer pool and valid guesses. You can select your preferred dictionary when using our tools to ensure game-accurate results.

What is the difference between the OTCWL and SOWPODS word lists?

OTCWL (Tournament and Club Word List) is used in North American Scrabble tournaments and is compatible with NASPA events. SOWPODS (Collins Scrabble Words) is the international dictionary used in most countries outside North America, including British spellings and words from international English dialects. SOWPODS is generally larger and contains most OTCWL words plus additional entries. Competitive players should use the dictionary matching their tournament region.

How current are your Wordle word lists?

Our Wordle solver uses valid word lists compatible with the NYT Wordle game, including possible answer words and accepted guesses. Since NYT doesn't publish future answers in advance (to maintain the daily mystery), we focus on providing a comprehensive set of valid 5-letter words that the game accepts. We also maintain word lists for Quordle and Octordle variants.

Why is a word valid in Words With Friends but not in Scrabble?

Words With Friends uses a proprietary dictionary maintained by Zynga that includes informal words, slang, and entries that official Scrabble dictionaries don't recognize. The WWF dictionary tends to be more permissive with modern slang and casual terms. This is why our solver lets you select the correct dictionary for your specific game, so you only see words that will actually be accepted.

How do I use wildcards or blank tiles in the solver?

Use a question mark (?) or asterisk (*) to represent blank tiles or unknown letters. For example, entering "C?T" will find words like CAT, COT, CUT, and CIT. You can use up to 3 wildcards per search, and the solver tries every letter A-Z for each one. This feature is perfect for finding optimal plays when you have blank tiles on your rack.

Can I find words that start or end with a specific letter?

Absolutely! Use our advanced filters to find words that start with, end with, or contain specific letters. You can also combine multiple filters. How do I find high-scoring words with specific letters like Q or Z?

Enter your letters including Q or Z into our solver, and results are automatically sorted by Scrabble point value (highest first). For Q without U, look for words like QI, QOPH, QADI, QANAT, and TRANQ. For Z, high-scorers include ZAX, ZITI, PIZZA, and JAZZY. Can the solver handle 15-letter Bingo words?

Are proper nouns and abbreviations included in the results?

No, we exclude proper nouns, abbreviations, and hyphenated words to match official game rules. Scrabble, Words With Friends, and Wordle all prohibit proper nouns (names of people, places, brands). Our dictionaries are curated to only include tournament-valid words that will actually be accepted in gameplay.

How do I find anagrams that contain only a subset of my letters?
