Dictionary Sources & Methodology
The tournament-standard word lists powering our word-finding tools
Our Commitment to Accuracy
At AnagramSolver.io, we understand that dictionary accuracy is everything in competitive word gaming. A single invalid word can cost you a tournament match, and a missing word means missed opportunities. That's why we've built our word-finding engine on tournament-standard word lists compatible with those used by competitive players worldwide.
Whether you are playing Scrabble in North America or internationally, competing in Words With Friends, or solving your daily Wordle, we have the right dictionary for you. Simply select your preferred word list, and our tools will only show results valid for that specific game.

In-depth information about each word list we support
OTCWL (Tournament and Club Word List)
The Tournament and Club Word List (OTCWL), also known as TWL (Tournament Word List), is the standard dictionary for competitive Scrabble in North America, including the United States, Canada, and Thailand. It is compatible with NASPA tournaments.
OTCWL is more conservative than international dictionaries, excluding certain words deemed offensive or inappropriate for tournament play. Our Scrabble Word Finder includes all valid 2-15 letter words accepted in official North American competition.
SOWPODS (Collins Scrabble Words)
SOWPODS is the combined international Scrabble word list, now officially known as Collins Scrabble Words (CSW). Published by HarperCollins, it's used in WESPA events, UK, Australia, and most international tournaments.
SOWPODS contains significantly more words than OTCWL, including British spellings (COLOUR, FAVOUR), variant forms, and words from international English dialects. Competitive international players often memorize the "SOWPODS-only" words for an edge.
WWF Dictionary (Words With Friends)
The Words With Friends dictionary is a proprietary word list maintained by Zynga for their popular mobile game. Importantly, WWF uses a different dictionary than Scrabble, which often surprises players transitioning between games.
Our WWF dictionary is optimized for Words With Friends gameplay. Note that WWF accepts some informal words and slang that Scrabble dictionaries reject, making it more permissive with modern vocabulary.
Wordle Word Lists (NYT Compatible)
Since The New York Times acquired Wordle in 2022, the game uses two distinct word lists: the answer pool (common, recognizable words) and the valid guesses list (all accepted 5-letter words including obscure terms).
Our Wordle solver uses both lists strategically: the answer pool for probability-based suggestions and the full guess list for valid input options. We also support Quordle and Octordle variants with their extended word lists.
